2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and i4 update revealed

BMW has revealed a minor update for the 4 Series Gran Coupe and i4 liftbacks ahead of production commencing in July.

At this stage it’s unclear when the updated 2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe and i4 will arrive in Australia. We’ve reached out to BMW Australia and will update this story once we hear back.

Both liftback models received subtle exterior revisions including new grille designs, different LED headlight signatures, new alloy wheel designs, as well as more paint colours.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe and i4 now also receive the option of Laserlight rear lights in the style of the M4 CSL.

Inside there are minor tweaks including new steering wheels, reduced physical buttons and controls on the instrument panel, new interior trim elements, CraftedClarity glass applications, as well as ambient lighting as standard.

Globally the BMW i4 is now available in four variants, including a new i4 xDrive40 model which has a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup with a system output of 295kW of power and a range of 444-548km on the WLTP cycle.

It’s unclear if the new i4 xDrive40 will join the existing eDrive35, eDrive40, and M50 variants in the local lineup.

With the 4 Series Gran Coupe a variety of four-cylinder and inline-six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines both with and without 48V mild-hybrid electrification are available globally.

Currently the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is only available locally in two variants: the 430i powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol producing 190kW, and the M440i xDrive powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-petrol producing 285kW.

The entry-level 420i has already been axed from the local lineup.

At this stage it’s unclear if there will be any changes to the local 4 Series Gran Coupe lineup or powertrains with this update.

BMW Australia however is currently looking to further electrify its lineup and better align its drivetrains with Europe, confirming “just about everything moving forward” with petrol- or diesel-only engines will have 48V mild-hybrid electrification.
