BMW reveals tool to convince buyers an EV will work for them

BMW’s range of electric vehicles (EV) isn’t as broad as its petrol and diesel model lineup, but that hasn’t stopped the German brand from adopting a new approach to get its customers to move to battery power.

Launched overseas earlier this week, the My BMW App now includes an ‘Electric Vehicle Analysis’ feature, designed to convince existing owners that an EV can handle their driving requirements.

Available for petrol and diesel BMWs which run the company’s Operating System 7 or later, the app user selects one of BMW’s EVs as an alternative to their existing car, which is then used as the benchmark.

Following the completion of at least 200 journeys across a minimum of 2000km, the feature shows how many trips could’ve been made on a single charge by the selected EV.

BMW plans to expand the feature’s capabilities in the future to include evaluations of the time vehicles are not in use and of long-distance journeys, combined with information on charging facilities and the time required for charging.

“Electric vehicles can already be incorporated perfectly into the daily routine of many customers – it’s just that the majority of them haven’t tried it yet,” said Dirk Wiedmann, BMW’s Senior Vice President Sales Steering and Strategy, Digitalisation.

“Our app’s Electric Vehicle Analysis helps our customers to make an informed judgement in their choice of drive system.”

It’s not yet known when or if the feature will become available in Australia.

Globally, approximately 13 million people use the My BMW App and related Mini App.
